TINA001  Roberto Musci - Cargo Cult

The cargo cult does not exist per se; rather it appears in the dirty mirror of the European self - a cultic other as a reflection of the imperial self. The dreamer should always advance and attack in the teeth of danger, calling on the dream images of his fellows if necessary. Eroticism is beyond good and evil since it is inevitable ... just imagine living in four rapidly evolving worlds at once. To what degree can an expressionless doll made of wood be filled with the breath of life?

Instruments used:
Angklung, Cello, Chenda, Darbouka, Didgeridoo, Gamelan, Mridangam, Ney,
Percussion, Shakuhachi, Shamisen, Synthesiser, Taiko, Trumpet, Viola, Violin, Voice

Tina Records presents Cargo Cult, six tracks from the Musci archives created using an extensive collection of traditional instruments combined with synthesisers and electronics. On remix duty are Cut Hands, a.k.a William Bennett of Whitehouse, and industrial millenarian Nokuit.

Italian ethnomusicologist Roberto Musci, active since the mid 80s, has experienced a resurgence in interest since the 2016 Music From Memory compilation 'Tower of Silence', receiving endorsements from such disparate figures as Ryuichi Sakamoto and Yung Lean.

Cargo Cult maps out a para-geographical landscape summoning a fourth world of electro-acoustic machinery made of wood and teeth and toucan beaks. The academic laboratories of Stockhausen submerged by rising tides and overrun by Salamanders. Musci's Inception-style terrain-folding recalls the man/oeuvres of Coil and of Jon Hassell, to whom one of the tracks here is dedicated.

Just imagine living in four rapidly evolving worlds at once.

"Cut Hands contributes to a showcase of Roberto Musci’s rougher, pseudo-take on 4th world musics, porous to discordant noise and acousmatic interjection, on the first drop from Tina Records,"
— Boomkat

"Landing somewhere between Clock DVA, Throbbing Gristle, Cabaret Voltaire etc and the intense intoxicating visions of Jon Hassell - we highly recommend this one."
— Bleep

Cargo Cult was named one of the best releases of 2024 by Bleep and received airplay from the likes of Surgeon and Not Waving on stations such as NTS, Noods, Resonance and Intergalactic FM.
